After the successful presentation of the works and research developed by the invited artists during its first period (April-May), AIRLAB 2012 Artist in Residency Program at T.I.C.A. – Tirana Institute of Contemporary Art has the pleasure to announce the new group of artists that will attend the second period to be held between the months of September and October:
Ermela Teli was born in Tirana/Albania on 10/07/1981. She graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana in 2004, and actually works as actress at National Theatre in Tirana/Albania.
She started her artistic career in 1999 as protagonist of “Tirana year zero” a film by Fatmir Koci, representing Albania at 58th Venice International Film Festival (2001).
Apart from acting in numeros films and theatre plays, Teli has continuously pursued her interest in film and theater directing and script-writing. She presented and was awarded the first prize for her first script “Love in stone” at Skopje International script festival, 2003. In 2009 she produced “Farewell”, a short film which in the same year represented Albanian young cinema at "Cinema Du Monde” film festival in France.
Ermela’s other film “We hear what we see“, (2010) was awarded as “Best youth film” by TOTI International film festival (Maribor /Slovenia).
During the 2010 Ermela Teli, realized also the short film „Homage“- cosidered by the autor as poetic cinema. The film will be presented at ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival 2012 ,Berlin /Germany
Her last film, “Wicked game“will be in cinema by the end of October 2012.
Neda Firfova graduated with a BFA from the Academy of Fine Arts in Skopje, Macedonia in 2005 and
pursued her MFA at the Graphic Design Department of Tama Art University in Tokyo, Japan. During 2009 and 2010 she held a researcher position at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maasticht, The Netherlands.
Both a visual artist and a graphic designer, Neda Firfova's work operates on the blurred border between art and design. She is establishing a practice which aims at questioning the printed medium as a symbol of established truth in the digital age, and the modernist invention of the grid as a basic tool for democratic distribution of printed information. Her work is often articulated in the very printed medium, but not rarely extends itself towards conceptual acts, ready-mades or performative events. Suggesting more open approaches towards information distributions, her work invites the integration of interventions by collaborators and the audience, and supports reverse editorial processes. These experiments contribute to the questioning of the authority that graphic designers are educated to deliver exclusively on paper and by means of multiplication.
Lana Čmajčanin was born in 1983 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she also lives and works as a visual artist. Lana graduated in sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo and is a founding member of the Association for Art and Culture “Crvena” as well as a member of the Artists Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
Lana works individually as well as collaboratively with mixed media, manly with video, video performance and object art. Lana is doubtlessly one of the most promising emerging artists of Bosnia and Herzegovina. She is not afraid to be engaged with even most traumatic issues of the space she is coming from. Her work presents an unbribable political agenda: giving voice to the most marginalized subjects as victims of sexualized war violence. However, Lana always succeeds to translate and transmit this local realities and experiences in a universal code, comprehensive for international audience.
Anna Witt the german artist, based in Vienna will join the residency program in October 2012. She was born in 1981 in Wasserburg am Inn(Germany) and graduated at Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Asta Gröting (2005).During the period 2007 -2008 she was master student at Magdalen Jetelova. In 2008 Anna Witt was graduated in performative sculpture, with honors from Monica Bonvicin , Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
Working with performative intervention and video installation, Anna Witt´s practice deals with the construction of cultural stereotypes and individuals positioning within social systems. Her works ambivalently sit between fictional re-enactment and documentary staging and represent the problematic of subject-formation in relation to identity politics, collectivity and citicenships rights. Anna's work has been presented in important, solo and collective exhibitions. She is awarded with several awards and scholarships.
